Culture & History Tour Of Assam (7 Days & 6 Nights)

Day 1 – Guwahati Arrival
Today you will be arriving in the morning. Assistance at the Airport / Railway Station and directly driven to the Hotel for check-in. After a session of wash & change proceed to your visit to Navagraha Temple known as the ―Temple of the Nine Planets‖ - As the name suggests, Navagraha Temple (or the temple of the nine celestial bodies), is a worship place devoted to the nine planets of the solar system. Visit to Vasistha Ashram – Basistha Ashram, located on Sandhya Chal Hill near Guwahati is the hermitage of sage Basistha, where he is believed to have carried out his penances, meditating upon Lord Shiva. According to Hindu mythology, Sage Basistha was one of the Saptarishis (seven great sages). The day’s sightseeing will end with a visit to Sankardeva Kalakhetra.



Day 2 - Guwahati – Jorhat
After breakfast check out from the hotel and visit the famous Maa Kamakhya Temple siyuated at Nilachal Pahaar. Afterwards you will be driven to Jorhat. On arrival, you will check – in at your hotel for overnight stay.



Day 3 – Jorhat – Sivsagar – Jorhat
Today you will be proceed for a day excursion to Sivasagar – a beautiful town and a former capital of the Ahom Kings who ruled Assam. Visit sightseeing points included – Shivadol or Shiva Temple - located on the banks of the Sivasagar tank, also known as the Borpukhuri tank, in the heart of the city. The height of the Sivadol is 104 feet and the perimeter is 195 feet at the base. It is crowned with an 8-foot high golden-dome. Kareng Ghar – it is one of the grandest examples of Ahom architecture. The palace structures were made of wood and stones. Talatal Ghar - The Talatal Ghar, together with its above-ground counterpart the Kareng Ghar, is also the largest of all Ahom monuments. Rang Ghar - is a two-storied building which once served as the royal sports-pavilion where Ahom kings and nobles were spectators at games like buffalo fights and other sports are some of the worthseeing places.



Day 4 – Jorhat – Majuli
Morning after an early breakfast, you will drive down to the River Bank of Jorhat (Nimati Ghat /Bank of River Brahmaputra) and board your ferry to sail to Majuli. Majuli or Majoli is a fluvial island in the Brahmaputra River, in Assam. Majuli is the largest riverine island in the world and the largest freshwater island in South Asia.
HIGHLIGHTS OF MAJULI
1. Vaishnav Temples – Majuli has been the cultural capital and the cradle of Assamese civilization for the past five hundred years. The temples set up preserve antiques like weapons, utensils, jewellery and other items of cultural significance.
2. Art of Pottery Making – Pottery is made in Majuli from beaten clay and burnt in driftwood fired kilns in the same mode carried out by the peoples of the ancient Harappan Civilization.
3. Art of Mask Making – One can still find the craft of mask-making



Day 5 – Majuli – Guwahati
Check-out from the hotel & transferred to the ferry ghat. After crossing the Brahmaputra river, you will be directly transferred to Guwahati. Overnight stay.



Day 6 - Guwahati – Hajo – Guwahati
Today after breakfast you will drive down to Hajo – Hajo is an ancient pilgrimage centre for three religions: Hindus, Buddhists, and Muslims. The Hayagriva Madhava Mandir is the most famous temple of Hajo. Lesser known temples of Hajo like that of Ganesha was constructed during the reign of Ahom King Pramatta Singha in 1744 AD. The Kedareswara Temple, a Shiva temple, has inscription on the temple showing that it is of Rajeswar Singha period.Hayagriva Madhava Mandir is situated on the Monikut hill. The present temple structure was constructed by the King Raghudeva Narayan in 1583. On your way back, you will visit The Madan Kamdev Temple - Known as the Khajuraho of Assam, the Madan Kamdev temple in Guwahati is a shrine dedicated to Lord Kamdev (God of Love in Hindu mythology). After the sightseeing, you will return to your hotel for a peaceful night’s sleep.



Day 7 – Guwahati Departure
Today you will be followed by your check-out and transferred to the Airport/Railway Station where you will connect your flight/train for onward destination.
